Diaphragm Gas Meters
American Meter’s Diaphragm Gas Meters are the commercial and industrial market leader. Appropriate for natural gas or propane applications models with rated capacities for 0.60 S.G. are available in sizes between 800 and 11,000 SCFH. Features include:
Valves - Durafil valves and American Meter’s proven valve motion design ensures long term stability and minimal wear.
One-piece Body - The aluminum alloy case, table, partition and channels are cast in one piece. The possibility of internal leakage at machined joints and gaskets is eliminated by the one-piece design.
Molded Duramic Diaphragms - Three-convolution Duramic diaphragms deliver smooth operation and long service life. Duramic diaphragms feature uniform thickness and flexibility helping sustain accuracy.
Low Friction Seals - Synthetic grommet-type flag rod seals provide minimum friction with no leakage and can run millions of cycles.
Rugged Flag Rods - Heavy, rugged, reinforced flag rods ensure positive alignment and sustained accuracy.
Large, Self-Lubricating Bearings - Extra large, oil impregnated “self lubricating” bearings are used at all critical bearing points.
Steel Connection Threads - steel inserts eliminate thread galling.
Choice of indexes - Meters come with either a pointer-type or digital (odometer-type) index.
Rotary Gas Meter
American Meter’s Rotary Gas Meters provide accurate flow measurement and outstanding performance in the most adverse conditions. In addition to natural gas Rotary Gas Meters are suitable for propane and butane based gases, as well as other inert industrial gases. Advantages include:
Accurate - Precision engineered to measure natural gas flow accurately at all standard line conditions.
Tough – Rugged extruded aluminum manufacturing makes the meters well suited for adverse line conditions. These meters work in rough service where pipe stress and snap acting loads are evident.
Versatile - Options can be added to the meters to meet a variety of applications requirements. Optional equipment includes: temperature compensator with electronic data storage, correcting instruments, and automated meter reading, plus high and low frequency pulsing instruments.

Rotary Gas Operating Principle
"As down stream demand initiates the flow of gas, a pressure drop develops between the meter's inlet and outlet. This creates an internal force on a pair of hourglass shaped impellers that begin to rotate allowing the flow of gas to start. As the impellers rotate, gas alternately flows into two fixed-volume chambers created between the impellers and the internal cavity of the meter's housing. While cycling, these chambers measure a fixed-volume of gas and then discharge that gas down stream filling the demand.
These impellers rotate by way of highly synchronized precision gears and will cycle four times during each revolution of the impeller shaft. During operation, there is no metal-to-metal contact between the meter's housing and impellers."

Turbine Gas Meter
Turbine gas meters are widely used in commercial and industrial applications. These meters measure flow by sensing gas velocity, so proper meter installation is required and uniform gas flow upstream of the meter is necessary for proper operation.
Turbine meters use a rotor with multiple blades to measure flow. Gas flows through the meter, passing through the rotor blades, causing the rotor to turn. That rotation is captured and converted by internal gear resulting in an analog output in cubic feet or cubic meters. Additionally, digital flow measurements can be displayed via high frequency pulsing instruments.
Features and Benefits
Extended Capacity Rating Models can reduce the diameter of an entire meter run, resulting in substantial savings in piping, flanges, block valves, and other equipment.
Mechanical Drive Models for use with P&T Correctors.
Electronic Pulse Output Models to interface with flow computers.
Electronic temperature compensation with fixed factor pressure and six-month data storage.
High-Frequency Pulsing instument monitors rotor condition and allows for in-line spin testing helping to reduce maintenance time.
Interchangeable pre-calibrated measurement cartridges make maintenance easy.
Three-Point Accuracy Curve supplied as standard. The Six-Point Accuracy Curve is optional. Medium- and High-Pressure Accuracy Curves are available.
